EEPROM Cross Reference
EEPROM or BIOS Chips are actually one and the same Device, both Names are correct however the true name of these devices is EPROM or EEPROM. Quite Commonly PC owners will refer to an EEPROM as a BIOS Chip.
Modern EEPROM-BIOS Chips
Modern BIOS Chips or EEPROM are predominately SPI Serial Flash types and PLCC EEPROM types. The Older DIP EEPROM are hardly used at all at the time of writing except for older Mainboard's and in the industrail sector. TSOP and VSOP EEPROM are still being used today due to their low profile.
EEPROM That will Function in Both LPC and FWH Modes
ST, PMC and SST have produced EEPROM that will function with intel and also NON Intel Chipset's. Examples would be the Pm49FL004T 33JCE, this particular EEPROM will function as an LPC device and also a FWH Device so will suit both Chipset types.
