Fujitsu Amilo M3438G Repair Notes
One example came our way recently needing a new PLCC socket. The EEPROM is in fact fitted in a socket on these machines, and the owner had managed to remove the socket complete with eeprom from the board.
Luckily the Footprint was still OK and I managed to clean up the area and fit a replacement socket. On trying to boot the Laptop another problem became evident.. The laptop when powered on would flash the battery light as you pressed the power button but would not boot.
After doing a little research it came to light that the AGP card could be the culprit. The card was removed and then subjected to a visual examination.
On closer examination It appears as though somebody had screwed in the back cover plate and fitted the long Keyboard retaing screw incorrectly.
it had been screwed into the Graphics card heat sink and whomever replaced it had continued to wind in the screw even though the AGP graphics card circuit board was obstructing it.
The resulting damage can be seen in the images above, the area of the damage is shown on each side of the video board. This obviously created a short and consequently the laptop would not even start until the short was removed.
After removing the card the laptop booted with no video, only backlight.
