Satellite S3000-X4, PS301E
This machine came to me as a lower case half and a motherboard. I used the board to take a few pictures, and gather some information about the Toshiba Satellite S3000-X4 BIOS.
A few interesting things were discovered about the ATW01 motherboard board that this Toshiba Satellite Laptop uses.
The board was removed from its lower case half. The CMOS chip itself was on the top of the board towards the right in the top photograph. Hot air was used to remove the CMOS chip which is not present in the Photos below.
The CMOS code was saved as a Binary file for future reference. It turns out that this particular board used the SST PLCC EEPROM 39VF040 70-4C-NHE as a CMOS part.
The interesting thing is the footprint, the board looks as though it will accept different sizes of TSOP and also a PLCC part as a CMOS part.
The footprints are clearly visible in the misc image section below. have included a close up of the footprint.
On inspection the CMOS code seemed complete and I had no trouble reading the heated chip. I have not had a chance to test the CMOS code yet but am sure an opportunity will come along soon to try it.

S3000-X4 Mobo Top ViewTop view of the Toshiba Satellite S3000-X4 motherboard. the bios foot print can be seen to the right. It will accept a TSOP part and also a PLCC part, the board has the two footprints. |

S3000-X4 Mobo Bottom ViewThe underside didn't reveal the CMOS chip, the chip is actually fitted on the top side of the motherboard |
S3000-X4 Misc ImagesWhen the PLCC 39VF040 was removed from the S3000-X4 it revealed the TSOP footprint beneath in its full glory. The PLCC footprint Can be seen as the pads are tinned. Looking at the EEPROM footprint it becomes clear that three different EEPROM packages can be used as a CMOS Part on the S3000-X4 Motherboard. |

The motherboard has the label to the left which states it is an ATW01. When the label is removed it gives us what should be a more realistic picture. However I am unable to find much reference on this board. The Image on the right are the other two labels fitted to this particular motherboard. |
